Last night Germany narrowly pulled out another victory, this time against Turkey, to advance to the European Championship final for the first time since 1996. We bit our nails through most of the game . . . Turkey scored first 20 min into the game, followed by an equalizer from Bastian Schweinsteiger 4 minutes later. Then several near misses on both sides before a header from Miroslav Klose at around 70 min put Germany into the lead . . . then just five minutes before the close, a series of defensive mistakes, most notably from the usually-reliable Philipp Lahm, allowed Turkey to tie. With less than a minute left in regulation time Lahm redeemed his error by scoring the go-ahead goal, and despite a dangerous free-kick situation in the three minutes of added time, Turkey was unable to pull back into the game.
Only one yellow card given during the whole game, and a peaceful and cooperative celebration afterwards . . . the four million Turkish citizens living in Germany certainly made the fan situation interesting.
Final is on Sunday against either Russia or Spain.

Exciting!! Congrats on the win & making it to the Final! Maybe it's the nervousness of soccer that is unsettling your GI track! Love, Mom
