The Chicken or the Egg?

Now that we're here in Biberach, we're trying to sound out the possibilities for child care for Johanna, starting sometime in the latter half of 2008. After having had Lilia in a very good daycare, we really would prefer this model of care if possible . . . however, it doesn't look particularly rosy at the moment. There are two daycares in the city for kids under 3, with a total of about 50 spots, and it looks as if that is all there will be for this year. Priority doesn't just go to the first one signed up, though--it also depends on whether both parents of the child in question have work . . . and also whether a full-day or part-time spot is desired. Of course since I don't have a job at the moment, it's hard to answer these questions, and very difficult to judge the chances of getting a slot, and if so, when. But of course it's hard to look for a job, and harder still to agree to sign on somewhere, if the child care angle isn't covered in advance . . .
