5 Week Checkup

Johanna had her 5 week well-baby checkup today. She seems to be doing just fine . . . she weighs 8 lb 10 oz (!!), a gain of more than two pounds since her birth, she's grown an inch to 21 inches long, and her head is now 14.5 inches in circumference. Basically after about a month she's roughly the same size that Lilia was at birth. We did have a look at Lilia's newborn pictures the other day, since at the moment she is very interested in seeing "Little Lilia." Making the comparison between Lilia then and Johanna now really does show that Lilia was an awfully big, strong newborn--she was growing out of the newborn-sized clothes in less than a week after her birth, and these are the same clothes that Johanna is wearing now.

Lilia also got checked out, due to the bizarre circumstance of her developing a 103 degree fever last night at midnight. This morning, her temp was back to normal. The pediatrician couldn't find any reason for the fever and Lil seems to be her usual energetic self, so I guess we will just wait and see. Lilia loves going to the doctor (because she gets to be the center of attention, of course). This is true even when the purpose of the visit is a vaccination (!)

Thorsten is still getting over his illness and won't be going back to work until Monday. He had a fever until yesterday and is still pretty weak. It has been a Godsend having Mom and Dad here this week since I really don't know how I would have handled two little ones and a sick Thorsten by myself. Mom and Dad have been doing our shopping and many of our meals and have been playing with Lilia for hours and hours at a time, not to mention rocking Johanna and giving this tired new mother a chance to get a nap now and then . . .
